The bougainvillea is an ornamental vine that originated in South America. Currently there are over 300 varieties of these plants found growing in warm climates throughout the world. Although the “bracts” (not flowers) on the plant bloom in a range of colors, it is the magenta variety that caught and kept my attention on a trip to Greece.
