I don’t often include people on the cards I create, but in the case of Gemini I had no choice. This third sign in the zodiac series is based upon a set of twins named Castor and Pollux, with the head of each twin formed by a star in the constellation. Geminis are known to be both versatile and perceptive in their interactions with others, having the ability to adjust their energy to match those around them.
I decided to include the astrological symbol for Gemini alongside the primary image of the twins because I thought it looked interesting and perfectly balanced the the two faces. The overlapping heads allowed for the application of a watercolor technique called glazing; I painted the first layer in one color, waited until it had completely dried, then painted a much lighter coat of a secondary color on top of the first. The two heads share a similar palette yet are marked by their differences, just like many twins in real life.
Save this card as part of the zodiac series or give it to your favorite Gemini.
