Orange Tulips

These vibrant tulip flowers stand out against the sap green of their abundant leaves, providing a perfect pairing of springtime colors.

Are these tulips really orange? I used that description simply because the actual color, a salmon/yellow ocher/primrose combination, did not fit into any one standard color category. Fortunately I can use pigments from several different sets of watercolors to match what I see in real life with a little of this and a little of that (and a lot of water) on my painter’s palette. The result: these springtime tulips, painted “en plein air”  at Sherwood Gardens in Baltimore, Maryland.
